RLS: Embryonic stem cell research and use Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that have the ability to divide and create more identical stem cells or be able to specialize and be a specific type of cell. There are 2 areas in which stem cells can be derived, either from the somatic or embryonic cell. Embryonic stem cells can only be adopted from preimplantation embryos or IVF and have the capability to form any type of somatic cells. Moreover, Embryonic stem cell research can offer hope for new therapies but their use and research has sparked debate. The idea of extracting embryonic cells is widely questioned, as some religions believe it is inhumane or wrong, as a potential life is lost.
